Ok, so week 23 word prompt was MONEY. This made me think of the feeling of perpetual dissatisfaction that comes with never having enough. Given the subject, this song is one of my ‘deeper’ ones.
I wrote the lyrics about people who find themselves victimized all the time, and seem to attract drama everywhere they go. Like a whirlwind. There’s a lot of poetic imagery in this one.
The melody was clear in my head, but I kept tossing whether it should be in between 3/4 and 4/4. I felt I needed the extra beat per measure for all those words, so I picked 4/4. I feel I could’ve done better with the chord changes, but it was the best I could come up with at the time.
Here you go! Lyrics below the video!
Like a Whirlwind
Never satisfied with where you are
There’s always somewhere else to go
The grass looks greener from afar
But shades change when you’re up close
The finish line
Looks so much further away
The harder you run
The more stagnant you remain
Like a whirlwind
Leaving debris behind
Sorting through rubble
Searching for peace of mind
Searching for peace of mind
Is there a calm
Before you come storming in
The weather vane
Can’t keep up with your shifts
Like a whirlwind
Leaving debris behind
Sorting through rubble
Searching for peace of mind
Searching for peace of mind
You’re not gonna find it here
You’re not gonna find it there
You’re not gonna find it anywhere, ’cause
Peace comes from within
Peace comes from within
