The Ignition Lab is a group songwriting challenge to write a song a week  in 2013, using weekly word prompts as a starting point. Follow our work on Facebook: facebook.com/TheIgnitionLab

For some reason I kept forgetting to post this. I’ll keep this brief, since this seems so far away, and I’ve already worked on 3 other songs since. haha.

RESTLESS was the word prompt. And on one of those hot/humid days waiting for the train on the subway platform, I came up with the bass line and the first line of this song, “It’s so hot I’m restless, can’t seem to cool down…” I took it and ran. Lyrics below the video:

‘Til mornin’ comes

It’s so hot I’m restless
Can’t seem to cool down
Search high and low to find ways
To get out of this town

I can go far out and hide
‘Til mornin’ comes

Hurry clock is tickin’
Can’t waste any time
Ready for some changes
Before I lose my mind

I can go far out and hide
‘Til mornin’ comes

The ship has sailed without me
It’s sweltering heat
I’m stuck right here and it’s 200 degrees
Well, I’m being dramatic
Don’t know what to do
It’s a mad race and I’ve got gum on my shoes

I look outside my window
Neighbors’ve gone insane
The streets are filled with madness
The heat’s melted their brains

I can go far out and hide
‘Til mornin’ comes
